Riverdale living

North Riverdale runs from the Don Valley east toward Jones, between the Danforth and Gerrard. Riverdale Park East, with its famous skyline view, and Withrow Park are neighbourhood landmarks.

Most homes are older two-storey houses, so bungalows almost never list. When nothing is listed here, you will see bungalows from across Old Toronto. Want more choice? See listings in nearby Blake-Jones, or every Old Toronto bungalow for sale.

North Riverdale questions

Is North Riverdale close to the subway?

Yes. Broadview, Chester and Pape stations on Line 2 are along the Danforth at the north edge. If the location suits you, also check listings in neighbouring Blake-Jones.

What housing will I find in North Riverdale?

Mostly Victorian and Edwardian semis and detached homes on narrow lots, many renovated with rear additions or finished basements. One-storey homes are rare. If a bungalow is the priority, East York pockets such as Broadview North and Danforth Village-East York have more postwar single-storey stock.

What is it like living near Riverdale Park East?

Riverdale Park East is the neighbourhood’s backyard, with its sweeping hill, skyline views, pool and sports fields, and paths down to the Lower Don Trail. A footbridge crosses the valley to Riverdale Farm and Cabbagetown-South St. James Town. Homes on streets facing the park tend to command more attention when listed.

Can a North Riverdale semi support a basement apartment or garden suite?

Often yes, but narrow side yards and shared walls make access paths, fire separation and ceiling height the main hurdles. Garden suites also need adequate rear-yard depth. Confirm with the city and a designer, and read about legal basement apartments before counting on rental income.
